Nearly 50% hotel reservation rate for Labor Day holidays
The hotel reservation rate for May’s Golden Week is currently around 40 to 50 percent, said Ricky Hoi, deputy director of the Macau Government Tourism Board (MGTO), according to TDM Radio.
Hoi noted that more than 190,000 visitors have entered the city in the past week, a significant increase, with visits expected to continue to increase during the Labor Day holiday between May 1 and May 5.
Tourism authorities have also carried out promotional campaigns on the mainland to attack more visits to the SAR, with discount vouchers for local stays also provided through online booking platforms.
According to the MGTO representative, some 3,500 online vouchers were redeemed in a single day, showing the growing interest of mainland tourists to come to the city.
China’s online booking platform Trip.com previously revealed that the total number of order requests for Macau during the May 1 holiday increased by 20% compared to even pre-pandemic periods for the same period in 2019.
Local tourism authorities also this week highlighted a new public subsidy program that encourages residents of the enclave to take a stay, providing a one-time discount voucher of MOP 200 (US $ 25) for stays.
