Key nominations: Pan Pacific, The Langham, Pier One and more
The latest roundup of industry nominations sees big changes at Pan Pacific, Pier One, The Langham and Cordis.
The Pan Pacific Perth luxury hotel recently welcomed Jeremy Aniere as general manager (December 21).
With more than 20 years of experience in the hotel industry, Aniere was until recently vice president of operations, Greater China, overseeing 23 properties for the Accor group. Previously, he held general manager and regional general manager positions for the Accor Group in China, as well as senior management positions for the Hyatt Group and the Shangri-La Group in Australia, the United States, the Philippines, Indonesia and Hong Kong.
Originally from Perth, Aniere will return to his hometown to run the hotel.

The Langham Hotels and Resorts has appointed Jayson Heron-Smith as Director of Sales and Marketing, The Langham, Sydney and Director of Sales Australia, Langham Hospitality Group Global Sales Office.
Heron-Smith brings over twenty-five years of experience starting in food and beverage, working as an events manager and in sales and marketing roles.
Heron-Smith started with The Langham Hospitality Group in Auckland in November 2019 as Director of Sales and Marketing at The Langham’s sister property, Cordis. He previously worked for companies such as Hyatt, Crown Melbourne, Hilton and The Star Sydney.
Heron-Smith returned home to Australia to take on the role this month.
“I am delighted to be back in Australia, especially at this pivotal time for the tourism industry and LHG globally,” he said.
“I feel privileged to have landed this fantastic dual role and to work with such an experienced and hardworking team here at The Langham, Sydney. Meanwhile, Cordis Auckland has appointed Stephanie Choi as director of sales and marketing, vacated by Jayson Heron-Smith.
Choi brings over 16 years of experience as a sales and marketing manager and previously worked at the hotel when he was Langham Hospitality Group in Auckland.
Choi returned to New Zealand to take on the role on December 14, after many years abroad.
“Auckland has always held a special place in my heart, not just because of its beauty, but more importantly the people and culture I feel deeply connected to,” Choi said.
“I am honored to be able to work with a very talented team to support our customers and communities, as well as continue to build on an already strong brand, with the exciting addition of the new Pinnacle Tower.”
Choi has worked for Sheraton and Westin in multiple locations, Intercontinental Shanghai, W Beijing, Mandarin Oriental Shanghai and St Regis Langkawi, in locations spanning Auckland, China and Malaysia.
Cordis Auckland Managing Director Franz Mascarenhas said it was a pivotal moment for Choi to join the company with the recent launch of the new Pinnacle Tower.
“Stephanie has worked for many international brands and many of these assignments have included large hotels with similar room inventories to our increased capacity, so we are delighted to have her bring experience of this caliber and look forward to seeing her. she applies her international knowledge and learning to Cordis Auckland,” he said.
Pier One Sydney Harbour, Autograph Collection has appointed Chris James as Sales Manager.
James began his career at Pier One in 2012, before the hotel rebranded as Marriott International’s Autograph Collection. He has worked with major international hotel brands for the past 10 years, most recently as General Manager of Australia Sales for Ovolo Hotels. He has also worked with Langham Hospitality Group in Corporate, MICE and Entertainment and Arbor Group of Hotels in the UK.
“We are delighted to welcome Chris James to Pier One Sydney Harbour, Autograph Collection,” said Kim Mahaffy, Managing Director of Pier One Sydney Harbour.
“He joins the team with a wealth of knowledge and experience both in Australia and internationally in the luxury hospitality industry. He will be responsible for driving key segment strategies, partnerships, entertainment and brand identity for our iconic property.
