Hotel staff detained for videotaping woman bathing in Puri

Puri: An employee of a hotel in Odisha’s Puri has been arrested for filming a woman taking a bath in her room at the hotel. The DK Hotel would be located near Harihar Square, within the limits of the Sea Beach Police Station in Puri.

The woman is from the Sundargarh district. She had arrived at the hotel with her family on Saturday.

The alleged employee has been identified as Biplab Mitra, he is believed to be around 25 years old.

Afterwards, while taking a bath on Sunday afternoon, she saw a cell phone near the bathroom ventilation window. She immediately left her room and found the employee making a video on her mobile using a selfie stick.

He deleted the clip immediately after the woman caught him red-handed. However, the woman recovered the deleted video from the recycle bin folder of her mobile. Then she deleted the clips from the folder and turned the phone over to the police.

She also informed the hotel owner and other staff of the incident.

It was also alleged that the accused employee’s phone contained videos of several other women who had stayed at the hotel over the past six years.

Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh informed that the Sea Beach Police Station investigated the case and arrested the employee. He was convicted under Articles 354C, 354D and 509 of the Indian Penal Code and was referred to court.

It should be noted that the hotel management denied their involvement in the alleged crime. The Puri Hotel Owners Association demanded strict action against the accused.
