Former Chandigarh Police Inspector and hotel staff fight over pending bill, file cross-complaints
An alleged assault erupted between a retired Chandigarh police inspector, his relatives and staff at the Altius Hotel in the Phase 2 industrial zone over a pending bill on Tuesday evening.
The two sides filed counterclaims at the Sector 31 police station. Police said the complaints were being investigated.
The retired policeman, Inspector Gurnam Singh, had booked an evening with a deposit of Rs 70,000. Sources said the total expenses had been increased to Rs 1.50 lakh, adding that at the end of the party, the hotel staff had asked the Singh to make the payment.
However, Gurnam Singh would only have paid Rs 40,000 and refused to pay the pending Rs 40,000.
Gurnam Singh alleged he was attacked by hotel staff with a sharp weapon and received six stitches in his head. Meanwhile, hotel manager Param alleged that a restless Gurnam Singh initially claimed he was a police inspector on duty, which was not true.
Later, when payment of the bill was demanded, he attacked hotel employees and allegedly broke hotel property as well.
Hotel management submitted CCTV camera footage to local police.
Sources said that when the brawl broke out, some UT police, currently on duty, were also present in the hotel.
“Retired Chandigarh Police Inspector Gurnam Singh and hotel manager Param have been asked to produce documents regarding the hotel reservation and the total bill,” the officer said. post (SHO) PS 31, Inspector Narendra Patial.
