Apartments Now Planned for Former West Broad Street Hotel | Economic news

When KM Hotels bought the property and closed the hotel in 2019, the company’s plans were to demolish the main building of the original four-story hotel closest to Broad Street. This happened earlier in 2020.

Initially, plans also included turning the seven-story tower, which was added to the rear of the property in 1980, into a hotel.

Now, KM Hotels will convert this building into studios, which will be called The Studios @ 6531.

These apartments will be rented for long term or extended stay clients with a minimum rental of 120 days.

“There is a need for long term stays in the market,” Patel said.

KM Hotels opened a Residence Inn by Marriott on Glenside Drive, just north of West Broad Street in September. The company also purchased the old Days Inn on Dickens Road in 2014, renovated it and renamed it in 2015 to Candlewood Suites.

Renovation of the studio building will begin in January and should be ready in the fall.

The second phase involves the construction of another seven-story building towards the rear of the 6.67-acre property for the 172 unfurnished apartments at market price.

Construction is expected to begin on this phase sometime in 2022 and last around 18 months, Patel said.
